In recent years the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday has been the occasion for a number of the leading British societies in New York to sponsor a celebration with a charitable aspect. In Britain the Queen’s birthday is usually publicly celebrated on the third Saturday in June even though she was born on 21 April.
In observing the royal birthday, the societies celebrate not only her decades of exemplary service to the United Kingdom and Commonwealth nations of which she is the head of state, but also her role in maintaining the “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States. The Queen has met and known every US President since Franklin D. Roosevelt.
