Bagpiping, Tenor Drumming, and Scottish Gaelic. Classes are open to all.

 101 Beginning Gaelic
Time: 7:00 - 8:00 P.M.
For students who have completed the 2008 Fall classes.
This ten-week course covers insights into the development of the language and concentrates on grammatical structure, vocabulary, pronunciation and their application to the formation of everyday conversational phrases.
Textbook used: Gaelic by Roderick McKinnon, MA
Classes for new Gaelic speakers will be offered Fall 2009.
102 Intermediate Gaelic
Time: 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
Continues the study of advanced grammar and vocabulary with application to the reading and translation of pieces of Gaelic literature.
Textbook: same as Course 101

Don studied Gaelic with Larry (William Laird ) Siegel, Bill Aikens and Jane Williams. He is a member of An Communn Gaidhealach America and completed their summer program taught by instructors from the University of Edinburgh. Don has been leading the Gaelic learning group for the past ten years.
Location for both Gaelic Courses:
Gaelic classes will meet at the School of the Blessed Sacrament at 70th Street (Between Broadway and Columbus Avenues) on the upper west side of New York City, convenient to all public transportation
Fees:

 401 Tenor Drumming
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Ten week course: Students will learn to read drum music, and the fundamentals of playing tenor drums in a pipe band.
The textbook used is Tenor Drummer Lessons for the Beginner from Liza Frazier (A complete introduction to Tenor Drumming)

Betty has been Tenor Drumming for 12 Years and is also a Piper.

501 Beginning Piping
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
This ten week course covers the historical development of the Great Highland Bagpipe; the development of Scottish pipe music; basic music theory as applied to the pipes; proper fingering techniques; playing of grace notes, doublings and application of these techniques to playing slow airs such as Amazing Grace and The Skye Boat Song.
The textbook, "The College of Piping Highland Bagpipe Tutor Part 1" will be provided.
Students must obtain their own practice chanter from a local supplier. Prices: $60 - $95 plus
502 Intermediate Piping
Time: 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
This course continues with application of the techniques learned in Course 501 to the playing of marches such as Mharie's Wedding, Rowan Tree, Mingulay Boat Song and Atholl Highlanders.

601 Ceilidh Dancing
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Due to popular demand, the NYCC will be offering ceilidh dancing lessons, geared to beginners, on Friday nights, September - June. These are the dances done around the world at Burns Suppers and Scottish parties.
The lessons are being added to the program currently offered by Jack and Anne Cole's group, the Cameron Scottish Dancers. Classes are at 6:30 pm, tea break at 7:30, and then everyone meets for social dancing until 8:30. The entire evening is $7, and you do not need to bring a partner.
